The Anne Arundel Alliance of Black School Educators (AAABSE) is encouraging schools within AACPS to host your own MLK Oratorical Contest for students in grades K-12 in honor of a great leader and orator, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There is tremendous value in the art of having oratory skills; it builds self-confidence, enhances communication skills, and promotes positive social interactions. Watch your students come alive through poetry (original or published), speeches, and monologues! For easy implementation, schools can even have students present work that coincides with projects they’re already working on in their classes! It’s that simple! This is a great way to demonstrate your school’s efforts on the K-12 Speaking and Listening Standards Top scorers from each school will be invited to participate in the AAABSE MLK Oratorical Contest held Spring 2024 (TBD) at the Chesapeake Arts Center. Please click here to complete the Google form or scan the QR code below by Friday, December 22nd if you are interested in hosting an oratorical contest at your school. Participating schools will also have access to members of the AAABSE Academic Achievement Committee for questions or support on your event. For great inspiration, take a look at this video and brief MLK Oratorical Contest Guide.
